Attractor

Attractor plays with the idea of sonified light beams. Through physical modeling algorithms, the light beams are given weight in virtual space and transfer their energy when they collide. Visitors‘ body positions are tracked with LiDAR sensors and represented as mass in virtual space as well. Thus, collisions between people and light create an exchange of movement energy. The movement of light and collisions between light beams serve as exciters for real-time sound synthesis. The sound is altered by the movement direction of the light beams and spatialized based on their position.

The installation invites the audience into playful interaction with each other. Some like to hunt the lights, others try to learn to play the installation as an instrument. Either way, the audience interacts with one another, making the installation not only a large-scale instrument but also a space for social interaction.
